Rivedroite Mission
1. Repurposing Textile Industry Overstock
Our bags and accessories are produced with a short supply chain in Casablanca, Morocco, using recycled or upcycled materials and overstock fabric from the textile industry that we repurpose.
2. Innovative, Socially-Responsible Production Methods
Our bags & accessories are designed and created by our experienced designers once facing job insecurity who have now, with our help, started their own businesses. We finance the purchase of sewing machines to get them started, and manage the paperwork for them. We provide them with a stable income, and they work with us to help Rive Droite thrive.
About
We started Rive Droite in 2016 from a desire to create change and contribute, in our own way, to making sustainability the new standard in fashion.
Our goal is to unite our environmental imperatives with our ethical commitments to create long-lasting, timeless bags and accessories.
Why Rive Droite?
Aurélie and sisters Yasmine and Sofia are all Rive Droite girls. They draw their inspiration from the creativity of Paris, much like the energy of Brooklyn in New York, Kreuzberg in Berlin, and Shoreditch in London.
As an homage, their products are named after the streets of the right bank of Paris: Célestins, Sauval, Darcy, Barbette, etc.
In the USA, 17 million tons of textile waste are thrown out every year, while only 2.5 million are recycled (US Environmental Protection Agency, 2018 data).
It all starts with the materials.
Why produce new ones when, not far from our workshop in Casablanca, there's already a supply of sturdy, long-lasting textiles: recycled cotton, post-industrial denim scraps and overstock fabric from the textile industry? That's why we're obsessed with locating these materials, recycling them, upcycling them, diverting them from their initial uses, and transforming them.
Our objective: to repurpose textile industry surplus through ecodesign, a creative process that incorporates environmental protection throughout the product design process to reduce our ecological footprint.
Transparency
We set up shop in Casablanca to be as close as possible to the recycled and upcycled materials that we source in the area. We verify the quality, sort and cut them within our manufacturing facility, to make the most of every piece and minimize waste. Our workshop manager works closely with our designers to coordinate production. We choose the best partners in Casablanca for dyeing, washing and embroidery.
After our designers conduct their quality control checks, we verify the final products one last time before sending them to our facilities in Paris.
This traceability requirement is a central part of all our processes.
